Right of Multiple Use

FlexNet Manager Suite 2019 R2 (On-Premises Edition)
This right allows for slightly different things based on license type:
  • For device-based license types, it allows multiple versions of the same application to be installed on the same computer (normally for alternate use by the same user, typically to deal with backward compatibility issues in the software).
  • For user-based licenses, it allows the same user to operate the software on a number of different machines (this is typical of user-based licenses).
Many licenses make no mention of this right.
Note: Do not confuse this right with downgrade rights, which are much more common. The right of multiple use covers several installations of the software on the same computer, usually in separate directories or drives. In contract, downgrade rights normally cover a single installation on any given computer, with the installed version being one of a range of versions covered by the license.

Control Details
This license does not have contracts with right of multiple use This label indicates that this license has no linked contract attached to it that has right of multiple use. Right of multiple use can be inherited from a contract, or specified in this section. This label appears when the contract attached to this license has no right of multiple use. See Contracts Tab.
Inherit right of multiple use from contract
Indicates the name of the linked contract from which this license can inherit license consumption rules and rights. When you select this check box, you instruct FlexNet Manager Suite to dynamically inherit license use rights and rules from an automatically-selected linked contract. If a license is linked to multiple contracts, the license inherits use rights and rules from one of the linked contracts based on the following conditions:
  • If one of the linked contracts has a value Yes for the Evergreen field, its use rights and rules are inherited by the license.
  • If none of the linked contracts has a value Yes for the Evergreen field, the license inherits use rights and rules from the contract that has a greater value for the Expiry date field.
  • If none of the linked contracts has a value Yes for the Evergreen field, and all of the linked contracts have same value for the Expiry date field, the license inherits use rights and rules from the contract that appears first in database order (normally the contract record that was created first).
  • If all of the linked contracts have a value Yes for the Evergreen field, or all of the linked contracts have same expiry date, the license inherits use rights and rules from the contract that appears first in database order.
Note: You cannot use other rights options when you select this check box.
No multiple use rights (each installation is separately licensed) Every installation on a computer requires a separate license. For user-based licenses, every installation on separate computers used by the same user must be separately licensed. (This is identical to having a right of multiple use with a Maximum installations on a device set to one.)
One entitlement allows unlimited installations on the same device (device-based licenses) or One entitlement allows an end-user to access unlimited installations (user-based licenses) Choose this option when the license specifies that you may use multiple installations on the same device, and does not mention any quantity limit. Regardless of how many installations are found on each individual computer, the consumption count for each computer is always 1. For user-based licensing, the user may use the software on any number of computers. This is the default option, because:
  • It is the normal setting for user-based licenses
  • It covers a common case in device-based licenses (including many that do not mention the right at all)
  • It is backward-compatible with earlier versions of FlexNet Manager Suite.
One entitlement may cover a number of installations on the same device (device-based licenses) or One entitlement may allow an end-user to access a number of installations (user-based licenses) Select this option when the license gives a maximum number of installations permitted on the same computer; or when it limits the number of computers on which the user may run the software. If you select this option, the next control is exposed.
Maximum installations on a device (device-based licenses) or Maximum installations for a user (user-based licenses)

(The wording may vary for different license types.) Enter the upper limit permitted by the license agreement. On a single computer, multiple installations up to and including that number will consume a single license entitlement. Additional license entitlements are consumed as required for extra installations (modulo the maximum figure). For example, if the maximum count is set to 4, then 1-4 installations consume one entitlement, 5-8 installations include 2 license entitlements, and so on.
