Experimenting with Your Simulation

FlexNet Manager Suite 2019 R2 (On-Premises Edition)
Your simulation work screen displays three areas:
  • General — Contains a filter to show all licenses of the types supported for simulations, or to focus on a single license to see more details. As well, you can control whether unrelated items are 'dimmed' or hidden. For details, see Reviewing a Specific License.
  • Inventory details — This is your main work area. It shows a list of:
    • All computers with any installed software linked to any licenses supported in the simulation
    • All other virtualization hosts, so that you can simulate moving software to other VMs.
Those computers with child objects related to the simulation have + expansion controls that drill in for more details. ‘Child objects’ are items installed on, part of, or belonging to a computer. To make changes, either:
    • Click an icon at the right end of the row for that item.
Tip: These action buttons are visible only if the related action can be performed on that item at this time. Therefore different rows may have different numbers of action buttons available.
    • Select the check box toward the left end of an item’s row, and click a button in the tool bar above the Inventory details tree.
      Tip:
      1. To add an object at the first level, use the Add button in the toolbar.
      2. For the Delete and Revert tool bar buttons, you may select several rows from the list to perform these actions on many items at once. Keep in mind that deleting or reverting a high-level object such as a host server will have logical consequences for all the child or lower-level objects related to it.
      3. Because this is a simulation, you may still select a child item (such as a software installation) that is marked as deleted, and move it to a different host. If that host is active (not deleted), the moved software also becomes active in your simulation.
  • License summary — A status summary of all applicable licenses, showing
    • Whether it was compliant or over-utilized, either in the original snapshot underlying this simulation (Still...) or as a result of your simulated changes (Now...).
    • The net value of your changes (provided that the affected licenses have a unit price recorded)
    • Any financial liability you may have through over-consumption of the licenses (again, dependent on unit prices).

Tracking your changes

You track where you have made changes in the Inventory details tree, and review the impacts in the License summary. In the Inventory details tree, changes are tracked in two ways:
  • The value in the Status column
  • The color coding of the changed row.
