Ignoring an Inventory Record

FlexNet Manager Suite 2020 R1 (On-Premises)
You can ignore an inventory device when you do not want FlexNet Manager Suite to manage it. For example, you may wish to ignore computers belonging to consultants or other third parties. Ignoring a device has the following impacts:
  • Ignored inventory devices are not considered in any license consumption calculations (be careful that any software installed on ignored computers does not raise issues in a future audit)
  • Ignored inventory devices do not appear in any of the inventory device listings other than Ignored Inventory
  • Any software installed on ignored inventory devices does not appear in the application lists (available under the License Compliance menu).
However, as this is a state applied only to inventory device records:
  • The computer represented as an ignored inventory device may still be visible in the lists of discovered devices (under the Discovery & Inventory menu)
  • The device is not exempted from targeting for discovery and inventory rules (Discovery & Inventory > Discovery and Inventory Rules)
  • Any related inventory gathering activities continue, unaffected by the data record being ignored.
Tip: The Ignore button is disabled when any of the following is true:
  • Inventory devices of multiple types are selected
  • Any selected device is linked to an asset record
  • There are no inventory devices selected in the list.

To ignore an inventory record:

  1. If you want to select multiple inventory devices from the list:
    1. Using the column chooser, ensure that the Linked asset and Inventory device type columns are visible in the list.
    2. Click the blue, simple filter icon above the list to expose a new header row for filtering.
    3. In the Inventory device type filter, use the drop-down list to choose the one kind of inventory device you want to ignore.
    4. In the Linked asset filter, click the blue filter icon to choose Is empty, so that inventory devices linked to assets are no longer visible.
Tip: Before you can ignore an inventory device that is linked to an asset record, you must either retire the asset, or select the linked inventory device and use the Remove link button to separate the inventory device and asset records (you may wish to clean up the asset record later).
Now that the display contains a single device type, and nothing linked to assets, you may select any number of inventory devices from the remaining list.
  2. Select the inventory record(s) that you wish to ignore.
Tip: The check box in the header row selects all the inventory devices displayed in the current page. You may wish to increase the rows per page setting, and reselect the check box, if you need to select a large number of inventory devices.
  3. Click Ignore.
FlexNet Manager Suite displays the "The selected inventory was ignored successfully" message.
