Recommended Settings for Recommended License Types

FlexNet Manager Suite 2020 R2 (On-Premises)

The Recommended license type for S/4HANA field is available in all license assignment rule types (except the "Developer" rule).

You can set the Recommended license type and Recommended license type for S/4HANA to recommend different license types to users for the same license assignment rule.
Note: The Recommended license type drop-down list includes all license types from the loaded license type hierarchy, whereas the Recommended license type for S/4HANA drop-down includes license types that are marked as recommended for S/4HANA . See License-Type Details for more information on license types.

Depending on the system composition in your landscape, here are some recommendations for setting these options:

Landscape with only classic Business Suite systems

If you have only classic systems in the system landscape, and are therefore using only classic license types:
  1. Set the Recommended license type field to an applicable classic license type
  2. Leave the Recommended license type for S/4HANA field to Same as above (the default value).

Landscape with only S/4HANA systems

If you have only S/4HANA systems in the system landscape, and are therefore using only S/4HANA license types:
  1. Set the Recommended license type field to an applicable classic license type
  2. Leave the Recommended license type for S/4HANA field to Same as above (the default value).

Landscape with both classic Business Suite and S/4HANA systems

If you have a mix of S/4HANA and classic systems in the system landscape, and are therefore using both classic and S/4HANA license types in the same landscape
  1. Set the Recommended license type field to an applicable classic license type
  2. Set the Recommended license type for S/4HANA field to an applicable S/4HANA license type (not Same as above).
Note: You cannot select the same license type for both Recommended license type and Recommended license type for S/4HANA.

Segregating license assignment rules between classic Business Suite and S/4HANA systems

You may choose to segregate your license assignment rules between classic Business Suite and S/4HANA systems. To segregate your license assignment rules between classic Business Suite and S/4HANA:

  1. Identify the license assignment rule you want to segregate.
  2. Create a new license assignment rule which is the same type as the one you want to segregate.
  3. Assign the new rule to S/4HANA systems using the Assign to systems action link on the rule details page.
  4. Assign the existing rule to Classic systems using the Assign to systems action link on the rule details page.
Note: An alternative to steps 2-4 above would be to create separate rule sets and assign one to Classic systems and the other to S/4HANA systems, using Change default system assignment action link on the rule set details page. See Assigning Rules and Rule Sets to Systems.
  5. Review the order of rules or rule sets to ensure rules which apply to S/4HANA or Classic system are ordered before rules or rule sets that apply to all systems. This is required to prevent users from being matched against rules that apply to all systems. See Changing the Order of Rule Sets.
