Configuring Your Web Browser

FlexNet Manager Suite 2020 R2 (On-Premises)
Efficient use of FlexNet Manager Suite may require adjusting your web browser settings.
Note: For practical use, FlexNet Manager Suite requires a minimum horizontal resolution of 1024 pixels in a supported web browser.
Check the following settings on your web browser used to access the central application server:
  • Add the URL for your central application server (and, where used and separate, the URL for your Flexera Analytics server) to the 'Intranet site' list, and allow automatic logon for intranet site.

    May be recognized automatically as part of your intranet. If not, Windows Start menu > Control Panel > Internet Options, and choose Security tab. In the top panel, click Local intranet, then Sites, then Advanced. Enter the URL for your application server to the list. Then Close, OK. Still on the Internet Properties dialog, click Custom level..., scroll to the very bottom of the Settings list in the Security Settings dialog, and check that Automatic logon with current user name and password is selected. Then OK, OK all the way home. Adding the trusted locations as described above allows for automatic login. No further configuration required for this feature. Controlled by the same system settings used by Internet Explorer. Allowed once you have remembered the site(s) in your Keychain.
  • When Internet Explorer is used on a server-based operating system (for example, if you are testing from your central application server, or your inventory beacon has a server operating system), the IE enhanced security provisions must be turned off on that server.

    On the server, open Administrative Tools > Server Manager. Ensure that the Server Manager (top) node is selected, and in the Security Information group, click the Configure IE ESC link. In the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration dialog, ensure that the Off radio button is selected for both Administrators and Users. Not applicable. Not applicable. Not applicable.
  • JavaScript must be enabled.

    Enabled by default when the site is included in Intranet sites. To validate, Windows Start menu > Control Panel > Internet Options, and choose the Security tab. In the top panel, click Local Intranet. Click Custom level.... In Security Settings - Local Intranet Zone dialog, scroll down to the Scripting section and check that under Active scripting, the Enable radio button is selected. Open the Options dialog (if need be, click the Firefox button at the top of the window to expose the menu, then Tools > Options), and select the Content tab. Select the Enable JavaScript check box.

    Chrome menu > Settings > +Show advanced settings > Content settings (under "Privacy"). In the dialog, under "Javascript", either select Allow all sites to run Javascript (recommended), or where this is not permitted by your enterprise, click Manage exceptions... to allow Javascript from the central application server.

    Safari > Preferences..., select the Security tab, and set the Enable JavaScript check box.
  • Compatibility mode must be disabled for the central application server. For more information about compatibility mode, see Microsoft Internet Explorer Compatibility Mode.

    Open Internet Explorer, press the Alt key to display the Menu bar, click Tools, then Compatibility View Settings. Make sure Display all websites in Compatibility View and Display intranet sites in Compatibility View are both clear.

  • Cookies must be enabled for the normal operation of FlexNet Manager Suite. Mandatory cookies are automatically enabled. You will be given the option of allowing or declining optional cookies when you first deploy FlexNet Manager Suite and can thereafter manage cookies on the My Preferences page.

    Windows Start menu > Control Panel > Internet Options, and choose the Privacy tab. Click Sites, and Allow each of the appropriate URLs to store cookies:
    • For the US site, use https://*.flexnetmanager.com and https://*.flexnetoperations.com
    • For the European site, use https://*.flexnetmanager.eu and https://*.flexnetoperations.eu.
    Open the Options dialog (described above), and select the Privacy tab. In the History group, from the Firefox will options, select Use custom settings for history. Either set the Accept cookies from sites check box, or where this is not permitted by your enterprise, click Exceptions, enter each of the URLs in turn, and click Allow. Chrome menu > Settings > +Show advanced settings > Content settings (under "Privacy"). In the dialog, under "Cookies", either select Allow local data to be set (recommended), or, where this is not permitted by your enterprise, click Manage exceptions... to allow cookies from the central application server. Safari > Preferences..., select the Privacy tab, and ensure that the Block cookies and other website data option has NOT been set to Always. Either Never block, or block only From third parties and advertisers, is acceptable.
  • Windows authentication must be enabled.

    Open the Internet Options dialog (click the configuration icon, and choose Internet options), and select the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the Security section, and set Enable Integrated Windows Authentication*. Restart Internet Explorer. Windows authentication is permitted automatically for the sites listed as trusted locations. Controlled by the same system settings used by Internet Explorer. Recent versions of Safari work with Windows authentication once you save your user name and password in your Keychain.
  • Font download should be enabled for optimum usability of the site.

    Open the Internet Options dialog (as above), and select the Security tab. Click Trusted sites, then click Custom level.... Scroll down to the Downloads section, and ensure that Font download has Enable selected.   Font downloading is enabled and not easily configurable.  
  • If you are using Flexera Analytics, ensure that you allow pop-ups, which are required for the Launch button in the toolbar.
