How Direct Collection of Oracle Inventory Works

In the direct inventory collection method, the FlexNet Beacon engine on an inventory beacon connects directly to an Oracle server that lies within its assigned
subnet(s) (or, in the special case of Amazon RDS, in its assigned cloud region), and collects
only Oracle Database inventory. While the direct connection step in itself is relatively
straight-forward, it must be preceded by your choice of discovery method used to identify the
target Oracle server. For completeness, each of these discovery methods is covered in the
following topics, and you may focus only on your chosen discovery method together with the
subsequent direct inventory collection. The four discovery methods are:

     - Network scanning (see Using Network Discovery with Direct Inventory)
- Processing tnsnames.orafiles, whether these be copied from your Oracle server(s), created with the OEM adapter, or even edited manually (see Using tnsnames Discovery with Direct Inventory)
- Manually creating discovered device records including the necessary connection information (see Using Manual Discovery with Direct Inventory)
- Using the Amazon connector to discover installations of Oracle Database in Amazon RDS and create discovered device and inventory device records for each case; and then using the discovered device records to target for direct inventory collection.
