Scheduling Business Imports

FlexNet Manager Suite 2021 R1 (On-Premises)

You can attach any pre-existing schedule to each of your business imports, after you have created them.

The Business Importer runs each business adapter as it is triggered by its linked schedule, and the data collected from each is uploaded immediately. You can link any number of business adapters to the same schedule, and all will be triggered within a minute of the scheduled time (local time on the inventory beacon). You cannot modify the ordering of tasks linked to the same schedule.

You must have created and configured your business adapter before scheduling, so that it appears in the list on your list of business adapters on the Business Importer page (see Creating a New Adapter in the FlexNet Manager Suite System Reference PDF, available through the title page of online help).

To schedule data imports through a business adapter:

  1. Ensure that you have created a suitable schedule to use for your business import(s).
  2. From the list in the Business Importer page, select one business adapter.
Each business adapter connection must be scheduled individually.
  3. Click Schedule....
    The Select Schedule dialog opens.
  4. From the drop-down list, select the schedule you wish to apply.
Tip: As you select each schedule from the list, the area below displays a summary of the schedule settings and the expected Next run time for this schedule.
  5. Click OK to apply the selected schedule.
  6. Click Save to store these details.

The list of connections is updated, and the Next run column for your selected connection shows the projected run time from the schedule you just attached.

Note: You cannot control the order in which the business adapters on a common schedule are run, nor the order in which their data is imported into the operations databases. This means that:
  • Best practice is to keep related datasets within the same business adapter wherever possible.
  • If you must have interdependent data gathered with different business adapters, you may need to manage the timing of imports to avoid any failures in data linking within the compliance database. For example, suppose you create new cost centers in your organization chart, and you also import new purchases that should link to these new centers. To ensure that the linking process cannot fail through the purchases being imported before the cost center records are established, import the cost center information one day, and wait until a later day to import the related purchases. A quick way to achieve this is to disable the import of purchases for one day while the new cost centers are imported (see Disabling a Connection), and re-enable purchase imports the next day.
