Cloud license model

FlexNet Manager Suite 2022 R2 (On-Premises)
For "devices" in this listing that are instances hosted by an approved cloud service provider, this column may show the method used to license the linked software on that instance. Possible values are:
  • Blank (for all devices that are not cloud instances hosted by your cloud service provider, such as those running the software on-premises, in your own data center)
  • BYOL — Bring Your Own License, which may refer to either:
    • The "Azure Hybrid Benefit" that allows existing on-premises license entitlements covered by Software Assurance to be either moved to the cloud, or used in the cloud as well as on-premises, depending on product and license terms. For example, the Azure Hybrid Benefit is applicable to both Standard and Datacenter editions of Windows Server for the 2008R2, 2012, 2012R2 and 2016 releases — for Standard edition, on-premises entitlements may be repurposed to authorize the product running on a cloud instance; and for Datacenter edition, on-premises entitlements may simultaneously authorize the product running on-premises and in a cloud service provider's instance. The Azure Hybrid Benefit is also applicable to Microsoft SQL Server (when licensed with a Microsoft Server Core license type), with different conditions (for example, exchanging on-premises license entitlements for discounted rates on Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance).
    • "License mobility" for other cloud service providers, where existing on-premises license entitlements (with Software Assurance) may be repurposed to authorize the product running on a hosted instance instead.
  • PAYG — Pay As You Go, which refers to the cloud service provider providing license coverage for products running on hosted instances, as part of the hosting cost.
  • Unknown — The system cannot determine the license model in use, possibly because the cloud service provider does not provide an API that reveals the license model in use.
Available only for the following license types:
  • Microsoft Server Core, which may be used to license Microsoft SQL Server with the appropriate points rule set (assuming coverage of all entitlements with Software Assurance), for any eligible cloud service provider, under the Azure Hybrid Benefit or license mobility rights, as appropriate
  • Microsoft Server/Management Core, which, as discussed above, may be used to license Windows Server under the Azure Hybrid Benefit right, with differing rights depending on the edition of Windows Server (and even depending on the SKU under which the original on-premises entitlements were purchased).
