Local Tab: Applications

FlexNet Manager Suite 2022 R2 (On-Premises)

The Local tab lists the software applications installed on the inventory device that are not found in containers. The information appearing on this tab is read only.

This page displays the following columns (listed alphabetically). Some columns are displayed by default and others can be displayed through the column chooser. To manage columns and other UI options, see the topics under Managing Columns in a Table.

Table 1. Application tab details
Field Description
Access mode

The method that this computer uses to access the application attached to this license.

The Access mode value is not editable, and is derived from inventory.

Category

The broad function of the application, by default from the UN Standard Products and Services Code.

For local applications, this field is editable in the General tab of the application properties. (Additional custom categories can be created in Enterprise > Categories.)

Classification

The type of software, especially as it relates to licensing (freeware, commercial, component, and so on).

Visible on the General tab of the application properties. It is editable only for applications with a Source value of Local.

Device name

The name of the device. The compliance calculation updates this field with the machine name returned in inventory (matched by several properties, including serial number). If this inventory device is a virtual host, all the applications found on all the virtual machines (that are hosted by this host) are displayed, each with the name of the corresponding virtual machine.

Editable in the Name field in the General tab of the inventory device properties (for manually-created records).

Edition
The edition of an application, as specified by the publisher of this application.
Note: Many applications do not specify an edition.

Visible on the General tab of the application properties. It is editable only for applications with a Source value of Local.

Evidence capability
Most application evidence is used to identify whether an application is installed on a device. Some evidence may identify whether the application was accessed by a user. This column identifies the kinds of evidence so far linked to the application, with the following values:
  • Installation
  • Access
  • Installation and Access — There is evidence available for either purpose, or both.
  • None — The application has not been linked to any evidence records (by default, there is also an alert displayed on the application name highlighting the same shortcoming). You should try to remedy this situation, as without evidence, consumption for any license linked to this application cannot be calculated.
Extended

Displays Yes when the application originated in the Application Recognition Library, but someone in your enterprise has added extra evidence to the application definition. A No means the application comes from the Application Recognition Library and is unchanged.

Not editable. Updated automatically when evidence is linked to the application defined by the Application Recognition Library.

Flexera ID

A generated code that uniquely identifies all application records, and can be used for integration between products from Flexera.

This data is read-only. This is true for both applications sourced locally and those from the Application Recognition Library.

Image ID

Unique identifier of the image.

Last used date
The Monday of the week when use of this application on this device was last recorded. The column is blank when either:
  • Usage tracking is not configured for this application
  • There is no inventory record of usage matching the criteria set for this application (see the Usage tab in the application properties).
License name

The name of the license linked to the application found on this inventory device. A license name typically displays for each of the installed applications.

The Name value is editable in the Identification tab of the license properties.

Name

The name of the application found on this inventory device. Multiple applications may have been installed on this inventory device.

You can edit this on the General tab of the application properties when Local is displayed in the Source column (which means the application was added manually by an operator).

Product
The basic name of the application, excluding the publisher and references to versions or editions.
Tip: For Oracle Database installations, the name of the inventoried database instance is generally appended in parentheses:
Oracle Database (DMERNPRD)
However, the instance name is not shown when the Oracle Database was identified through the Oracle Universal Installer (as installer evidence), but inventory has not yet been collected from any database instance on the device.

Product names are supplied by the Application Recognition Library and are not editable. New product names created within your enterprise are editable in the General tab of the application properties.

Publisher

The name of the publisher of this software, responsible for its development and distribution.

Publisher values are recorded in the General tab of the application properties. They are not directly editable in the license properties, but are linked through the latest version of the application linked to the license.

Repository tags
The repository tag(s) of this container or image. Tags typically identify different versions of a Docker image. This value is only populated when the Type is:
  • Image — displays any repository tags associated with this image
  • Container — the repository tag for the image used to launch this container, which is most often the same as the tag associated with the image, but may be different where one of multiple tags was selected.
Source
The origin of an application record:
  • Flexera — Shown when the application is downloaded in Application Recognition Library (if so, you cannot edit any of the application’s properties, but can link it to additional evidence).
  • Local — Shown when an operator in your enterprise created the record for this application.
  • Flexera (Extended) — Shown when an operator added additional evidence to the original record from Application Recognition Library.

Not editable.

Suite

Displays Yes if this application is a suite (that is, contains child applications), and otherwise No. Remember that a non-suite (has no children) may itself be a member of a suite. For example, Adobe Creative Suite® is a suite, Adobe Photoshop is not, and Photoshop can be a member of Creative Suite.

Editable in the Suite and member section of the Evidence tab in the application properties.

Usage
The count of devices on which inventory shows that usage tracking is turned on, and the application has been used.
Tip: This is the number of devices showing usage in the Devices tab of the application properties, and is filtered by the thresholds set in the Usage tab of the same application properties. Devices where applications are opened less often, or for shorter times, than specified there are not counted here; but for usage tracked in Flexera inventory, may be checked in the Raw Software Usage page (where no thresholds apply).

Not editable.

Version

The release number (or release identifier) of an application.

Visible in the Version field in General tab of the application properties. Editable for applications with a Source value of Local. For applications from the Application Recognition Library, it is not editable.

You can select any application record and click Open to view the Application Properties for the selected application. You can also click the Product link to view the application properties.
