Troubleshooting
Possible issues when configuring or using SAML.
An unexpected error has occurred while attempting to communicate with the authentication provider. The application configuration may be incomplete or incorrect. Please refer to the log and the FlexNet Manager Suite application documentation for further information.
Connectivity
- When the
Load Metadata
attribute is set to true in theidentityProviders/add
attribute, and no Internet connection exists while trying to load the metadata. Metadata reload period could be set by the identity provider. - Analytics - If neither of the Sustainsys.Saml2
entityId
or the signOnauthenticationHost
attributes in the ibmcognos web.config file are provided when an error occurs when trying to authenticate with the SAML identity provider.
Configuration
- When (Sustainsys.Saml2/entityId) attribute is missing, empty or having wrong value.

When identityProviders section does not exist in the web config.
- When (identityProviders/add/entityId) attribute does not exist or has invalid value.
- When (identityProviders/add/signOnUrl) attribute does not exist.
- When (identityProviders/add/binding) attribute does not exist or has invalid value.
We have a problem. Unexpected error.
Analytics - If an error occurs when trying to authenticate
with the SAML identity provider, due to the populated values in either the
Sustainsys.Saml2 entityId
or the signOn authenticationHost
attributes in the ibmcognos
web.config file, then the user will be redirected to the authentication
error page.
