Filtering vs. Searching

Filtering a list is very similar to searching. It requires a new fetch from the underlying database, and filters the entire set of data for this list, not just the currently-visible page.
Unlike searching, filtering enables you to:
- Constrain the search for a value within a specific column (or field).
- Combine distinct values for different columns.
- Choose different filter conditions for each of the active columns.
- Include different values for a column (A or B or C) to include in the display.
- Invert the results of the filter (using Not).
You can combine searching and filtering, in either order.
