Alert Action Catalog Items

To instruct App Portal to generate alerts, you create and modify Alert Action catalog items, which are a specialized type of catalog item that uses FlexNet Manager Suite application recognition and licensing data to identify installed application/device combinations that need attention, such as unused applications, unlicensed applications, or applications targeted for another reason. App Portal then sends out alerts to the identified device owners to prompt them to take action to resolve the issues.

You create and modify Alert Action catalog items on the Catalog Management > Catalog > Alert Action Catalog Items view.

Alert Action Catalog Items View

To create a new Alert Action catalog item, open the Alert Action Catalog Items view and click Add New Alert Action Catalog Item to open the New Alert Action Catalog Item Wizard.

While Alert Action catalog items share the same Catalog Item Properties dialog box, they are not the same as standard App Portal catalog items:

• Not listed on Browse Catalog tab—Alert Action catalog items are not listed on the Browse Catalog tab.
• Do not need to assign a category—Because Alert Action catalog items are not listed on the Browse Catalog tab, you do not need to assign them to a category.
• Can only be created on the Alert Action Catalog Items view—You can only create new Alert Action catalog items on the Catalog Management > Catalog > Alert Action Catalog Items view.
• Can be viewed and edited in two locations—You can view and edit Alert Action catalog items in two locations in the App Portal interface: both on the Alert Action Catalog Items view and also on the Catalog Management > Current Catalog Items > View All Items view.

The Alert Action Catalog Items view includes the following properties:

ID

Number that uniquely identifies the Alert Action catalog item.

Alert Action

Title used to identify the Alert Action that is associated with this Alert Action catalog item.

Mapped General Catalog Name

Title used to identify this Alert Action catalog item.

Action Type

Type of the Alert Action that is associated with this Alert Action catalog item:

• License Reclamation - Keep—Predefined, system action type that is associated with the predefined, system Alert Action catalog item named Keep. The Keep Alert Action catalog item is associated with the automatic Unused Software alert, and gives users the choice to keep the unused software application.
• License Reclamation - Uninstall—Predefined, system action type that is associated with the predefined, system Alert Action catalog item named Uninstall. The Uninstall Alert Action catalog item is associated with the automatic Unused Software alert, and gives users the choice to uninstall the software application.
• Alert Action—Action type of the associated Alert Action that is used for all user-defined Alert Action catalog items.

Tip:All Alert Actions that you create will have the Action Type of Alert Action.
