Reconfiguring an Inventory Beacon
After you have created an inventory beacon by following the instructions in Creating an Inventory Beacon to Upload Inventory to Flexera One, you can choose to modify the configuration of the inventory beacon if needed. You can also reconfigure a beacon if you want to rotate its password.
Important:Currently, this function is available only for customers who use both IT Visibility and IT Asset Management. Support for customers using only IT Visibility will be included in the future.
To reconfigure an inventory beacon:
1.
In Flexera One, go to Data Collection > IT Assets Inventory Tasks > Beacons. |
2.
From the list, click the name of the beacon to be reconfigured. |
3.
On the Beacon Properties page, click Reconfigure beacon. |
4.
On the Reconfigure Beacon page, the following information is displayed. Some fields are editable. |
•
Name—You can modify the name for the beacon. The new name will be used to identify this inventory beacon in future listings. |
•
Unique ID—The unique ID of the beacon is displayed. This value is read-only and cannot be edited. |
•
Destination—Displays whether this beacon is an IT Asset Management beacon or an IT Visibility beacon. For customers of both IT Visibility and IT Asset Management, you can modify the beacon destination. |
•
ITAM—The beacon will become an IT Asset Management beacon. |
•
ITV—The beacon will become an IT Visibility beacon. |
•
Upgrade Mode—You can modify upgrade mode and select from the following options: |
•
Manual—The beacon will never be automatically upgraded. |
•
Always upgrade to approved version—The beacon will always be automatically upgraded to the approved version. The version number of the approved version is also displayed for your information. |
•
Always upgrade to latest version—The beacon will always be automatically upgraded to the latest version. |
•
Use a specific version chosen for this beacon—If you select this option, a list of all available beacon versions are displayed for you to select a specific version, and the beacon will be automatically upgraded to this version. |
Note:If this is a child beacon, you cannot select the parent beacon on this page. Instead, you will need to select the parent beacon and add credentials on the beacon server.
5.
(Optional) If you want the beacon to be enabled right after it is created, select the Enabled checkbox. |
6.
Click Save to save the new configuration. |
7.
Click Download Configuration, and in the confirmation dialog, click YES. A configuration file in the XML format will be downloaded. |
Tip:If you are updating the configuration for an inventory beacon that has already been operational, its previous password is disabled as soon as you click YES on the confirmation dialog; and the inventory beacon is unable to upload inventory until you complete the import of the new configuration on that server, as described in the following steps.
8.
Go to the FlexNet Beacon interface, and click Import configuration. |
A file Open dialog appears, displaying the contents of your Downloads folder (or browse there if necessary).
9.
Select the most recent download (the file name includes the unique ID for this inventory beacon), and click Open. |
The configuration file is imported into FlexNet Beacon.
10.
When the configuration details are changed, the inventory beacon displays the resulting URLs, automatically runs a background check on the connection, and displays the results on the page. If there are problems listed, you can address these, and (if required) click Test connection to retry (see Troubleshooting for initial troubleshooting steps). |
Tip:The URLs for upstream connections must use the HTTPS protocol. HTTP is not supported.
11.
Click Save (bottom right in the FlexNet Beacon interface). |
