Concepts

The business importer gathers information that is not part of hardware and software inventory, but is helpful to managing your overall compliance position. Examples of business information include:

Details of software and maintenance purchases
Relevant contracts
The structure of your enterprise so that you can track allocations to different cost centers and business units.

The business importer works by running adapters that connect to other business systems where the raw information is held, and format the data for import into the operations databases for IT Asset Management. (This is a similar structure used for integrating with inventory sources, so we differentiate between inventory adapters and business adapters.)

Because each enterprise is unique, there are no standard business adapters; but there are business adapter templates to help you quickly build custom business adapters, using the Business Adapter Studio. Full details of the Business Adapter Studio are available in the System Reference.
