Rule Execution Details

The Rule Execution Details page provides troubleshooting information about execution tasks. You can use this page for troubleshooting Inventory Agent installation and/or inventory collection through discovery and inventory rules. This page appears when you click one of the following links in the (expanded) rule details on the Rules tab of Data Collection > IT Assets Inventory Tasks > Discovery and Inventory Rules.

Note the following about the IT Assets Inventory Tasks Discovery and Inventory Rules page:

See details in the Summary column for a task in the Task status and history section
Devices failed to be inventoried in the rule details
View top 5 errors in the rule details.

This page serves as the second line resource for troubleshooting information. You should use the information on this page when you are unable to troubleshoot the problems by using the troubleshooting information displayed on the Rules tab of the Discovery and Inventory Rules page (Data Collection > IT Assets Inventory Tasks > Discovery and Inventory Rules). This page displays the following troubleshooting properties for each task. Some of these properties are visible by default whereas others are visible through the Column Chooser option. For more information about the UI controls, see the topics under Using Lists in IT Asset Management. All of these properties are read only.

Properties on the Rule Execution Details Page

Property

Description

Beacon name

The name of an inventory beacon involved in this task. One or more inventory beacons may be involved in a task.

Device name

The name of the inventory device. This field can have any one of the following values: the first part of the full DNS name, the NetBIOS name, or the SNMP name of a computing device. If the device is a virtual host, you can also use its IP address as name.

Tip:The name displays as Flexera SaaS Manager if this is a dummy device record created for imports from your SaaS Management connector.

Important:Do not use a business adapter (or manual edits) to change the name of the inventory device that has been returned from inventory. This may cause creation of duplicate device records, and in any case will be overwritten by future inventory imports. For example, if you initially name new hardware purchases with the serial number while preparing for deployment, update the correct device name before collecting inventory.

End date

The date and time when this step or task was completed.

Not editable.

IP address

The IP address of the inventory device. For inventory devices with multiple IP addresses (for example, those with multiple network cards), a comma-separated list (up to 256 characters) is shown. IP addresses in the IPv6 address family are not reported in FlexNet inventory for devices running UNIX-like operating systems.

Rule name

The name of the rule associated with this task.

Start date

The date and time when this step or task was initiated.

Status

The status of an executed rule can have either of the following values:

A brief description of the errors encountered while executing this task within the rule execution, and the recommended troubleshooting tips for each of the errors. For example, Invalid credentials or other remote connection issues indicate that the platform type cannot be determined. Adoption
Citrix XenDesktop inventory

MS Hyper-V inventory
MS SQL inventory
