CAL License Summary Report
licensed with CALs, as well as access inventory for SaaS license types. This report assists software asset managers to identify users/devices using CALs across business unit, geographic location, and/or cost center, and then use this information to accurately chargeback licensing costs to the correct groups within the enterprise.
Generating the Report
To generate the report, perform the following steps.
To generate a CAL License Summary report:
1. | Go to the CAL License Summary report (Reporting > License Reports > CAL License Summary). |
2. | Click Run report to display the results for all licenses and all CAL types. |
Limiting the Report Results
Located from left to right below the report title are the following filters and search fields:

Using the standard filter labeled CAL type |
Choose one or more CAL types from the adjacent drop-down list. You can choose Microsoft Device CAL, Microsoft User CAL, and/or SaaS User. |
Using the search field titled Licenses |
Click the search icon and choose one or more licenses. This displays a standard filter labeled Applications which lists all applications associated with the selected license(s). You can optionally refine your selection further by choosing a single application from the adjacent drop-down list. |

Reading the Report
The following columns (listed alphabetically) are available in this list. By default, some are available through the column chooser.

Allocated |
The number of license entitlements allocated to computers or end-users. Those with allocations have top priority consuming from this license, and cannot consume from any other. Allocations may also be set (per license) to always count as consumption (regardless of inventory). For each inventory device, you can also modify the behavior of allocations. The Allocation type value is editable in the Consumption tab of the license properties. Furthermore, the type of allocation can be adjusted on the Licenses tab of the inventory device properties. |

Compliance status |
Whether or not the current use of software under this license complies with the license terms and conditions.Values may be:

Consumed |
The number of license entitlements (or points) consumed across the enterprise. Tip:Access rights on an operator's role may restrict the values that the operator is entitled to see. An unrestricted view provides the total consumption that should be balanced by purchases. Not editable. This value is the result of the latest compliance calculation (the time and date of which is displayed at the top right of every web page). |

Edition |
The edition property of the license, which may or may not be the same as the edition of the licensed application. Editable in the Identification tab of the license properties. |

Exempted by role |
The number of accessing devices or users that are exempt from the consumption calculation. This requires both device or user being set as Exempt by server role on the Consumption tab of the license properties page, as well as the Device role being set to Exempt in the Inventory Device Properties page. |

License, Application |
The license name can be expanded to show a list of all applications associated with the license. Application data is not displayed for most columns and cannot be added. |

License type |
The kind of license, which determines what properties are available for the license, and how compliance is calculated for the license. For details of an individual license type, please see the appropriate entry in Terminology. Editable in the License type field in the Identification tab of the license properties. |

Purchased |
The total number of license entitlements recorded for this license. This is the sum of the Entitlements from purchases and Extra entitlements values stored in the properties of the license. This is the number of licenses your enterprise is entitled to consume. Not directly editable. The value changes as you:

Shortfall/Availability |
Displays the result of Entitlements from purchases plus Extra entitlements minus Consumed fields shown in license properties. The result is positive when you have surplus entitlements (according to the last license consumption calculation), and negative when you are under-purchased. Tip:Used and Allocated quantities are not taken into account here. Not editable. Visible at the Available Entitlements field on the Compliance tab of the license properties. |

Used |
The number of installations of the licensed applications actively being used. Shows a zero if:
If a non-zero Used count is less than the Consumed count, you may be able to harvest licenses by uninstalling applications. The Used value is not editable, and is set by the most recent compliance calculation. |

The number of distinct devices or users accessing the application which is covered by this license. Note:Information only displays in this column for applications and not for licenses. |

Version |
The version assigned to the license. This may be tracking versions of a linked application, or may an independent value. The license Version is editable in the Identification tab of the license properties. |
