Configuring the customer’s Jira instance

You need to ensure your Jira is properly configured to work with Jira Service Management Connections.

In your Jira instance, you have to add Reference Types and link the attributes between the objects during the initial feature run. Then, every subsequent scheduled sync will populate the objects in the Jira Instance and keep it in sync with Flexera One.

Prerequisites

Your Jira account must have the App admin role assigned to be able to grant permissions for Jira Service Management Connections to work.

Adding reference types

You need to add the Made by reference type.

Adding the ‘Made by’ reference type

To add ‘Made by’ Reference Type:

1. Go to Assets > Schemas in your Jira Service Management
2. Choose Flexera from the Object schemas list.
3. Click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner, near the Search this schema field, and choose Schema settings.
4. Select Reference types tab under Schema settings.
5. Click Create a reference. A Create reference type window will appear with fields to fill.
6. Enter Made by in the obligatory Name field and fill the Description. You also have to choose the Color.
7. Click Create. A Made by reference type is added.

You also need to add the Installed reference type.

Adding the ‘Installed’ reference type

To add ‘Installed’ Reference Type:

1. Go to Assets > Schemas in your Jira Service Management
2. Choose Flexera from the Object schemas list.
3. Click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner, near the Search this schema field, and choose Schema settings.
4. Select Reference types tab under Schema settings.
5. Click Create a reference. A Create reference type window will appear with fields to fill
6. Enter Installed in the Name field, add Description and choose the Color.
7. Click Create. An Installed reference type is added.

Linking the attributes in Application

You need to link the Manufacturer attributes in Application.

To link the Manufacturer attributes in Application:

1. Go to Assets > Schemas in your Jira Service Management.
2. Choose Flexera from the Object schemas list. There are four data types available: Manufacturer, Application, Device, and Computer (a sub-type under Device).
3. Choose Application and click Attributes (on the right, next to Objects). A bar will appear at the bottom of the page.
4. Fill the fields:
In the Name field, enter Manufacturer.
In the Description field, enter Manufacturer of this software.
In the Type field, choose Object.
In the Object Type field, choose Manufacturer.
In the Reference field, choose Made by.
5. Click Add.

You need to link the Manufacturer attributes in Computer.

To link the Manufacturer attributes in Computer:

1. Go to Assets > Schemas in your Jira Service Management.
2. Choose Flexera from the Object schemas list. There are four data types available: Manufacturer, Application, Device, and Computer (a sub-type under Device).
3. Choose Computer and click Attributes. A bar will appear at the bottom of the page.
4. Fill the fields inside the bar:
In the Name field, enter Manufacturer.
In the Description field, enter Manufacturer of this computer.
In the Type field, choose Object.
In the Object Type field, choose Manufacturer.
In the Reference field, choose Made by.
5. Click Add.

You also need to link the Operating System attributes in Computer.

Linking the Operating System attributes in Computer

To link the Operating System attributes in Computer:

1. Go to Assets > Schemas in your Jira Service Management.
2. Choose Flexera from the Object schemas list. There are four data types available: Manufacturer, Application, Device, and Computer (a sub-type under Device).
3. Choose Computer and click Attributes. A bar will appear at the bottom of the page.
4. Fill the fields inside the bar:
In the Name field, enter Manufacturer.
In the Description field, enter Manufacturer of this Operating System.
In the Type field, choose Object.
In the Object Type field, choose Application.
In the Reference field, choose Installed.
5. Click Add.

Additionally, you need to link the Installed Applications attributes in Computer.

Linking the Installed Applications attributes in Computer

To link the Installed Applications attributes in Computer:

1. Go to Assets > Schemas in your Jira Service Management.
2. Choose Flexera from the Object schemas list. There are four data types available: Manufacturer, Application, Device, and Computer (a sub-type under Device).
3. Choose Computer and click Attributes. A bar will appear at the bottom of the page.
4. Fill the fields inside the bar:
In the Name field, enter Manufacturer.
In the Description field, enter Applications installed on this computer.
In the Type field, choose Object.
In the Object Type field, choose Application.
In the Reference field, choose Installed.
5. Click Add.
6. Find the Installed Applications row on the list under Computer. Click the three-dots menu on the right and select Attribute settings. An Attribute settings for Installed Applications window will appear.
7. Go to Cardinality tab, select Maximum allowed, and click Update. This will allow you to see all the applications installed on the computer, instead of just one.

Note:Switching Cardinality to the Maximum allowed value is a critical step. Don’t skip it if you want to get the most accurate results.
