Identifying Hardware Using Evidence

IT Visibility uses evidence information to identify hardware within your enterprise. The evidence information is collected as a part of the inventory collection process.

You can see all your discovered hardware evidence with match counts overall, aligned with normalized results where applicable, on the Hardware Evidence page (Inventory > IT Visibility Devices > Hardware Evidence).

This data can help you understand what happens between your devices and the normalization results, such as listing all hardware evidence that is unrecognized, inspecting the instance count for each piece of evidence, and so on.

On this page, you can view the following information:

The overall evidence counts for the following types of recognition status:
All
Recognized to Model
Recognized to Product
Recognized to Manufacturer
Unrecognized
Detailed properties of each piece of recognized evidence. You can search for evidence by using the global search box or the filter in each property column. You can also sort the evidence by properties.

Note:Within each record of the evidence, the Technopedia details reflect the recognition status when the related instances of that evidence was last mapped.

The following table lists all the available properties. Some properties are displayed by default and others can be displayed through the column chooser. To open the column chooser, click the icon. You can also export all these details in the CSV format.

Property

Description

Evidence Manufacturer Name

The manufacturer name of the hardware as reported by the evidence.

Evidence Model Number

The model number of the hardware as reported by the evidence.

Count

The count of the evidence collected to detect the existence of the hardware.

Recognition Status

The recognition status of the evidence. This field can have one of the following values:

Recognized to Manufacturer—Indicates that the evidence has been recognized and mapped to a manufacturer in Technopedia.

Recognized to Model—Indicates that the evidence has been recognized and mapped to a model in Technopedia.
Unrecognized—Indicates that the evidence has not been mapped in Technopedia. Flexera curates unrecognized evidence based on whether it is useful for recognition. Details on this gap-fill process can be found in the Flexera Community.

Note:When the recognitions status is Unrecognized, a dash “-” appears in the Technopedia fields.
