Installing FSM Data Ingestion Utility

After downloading and running the FSM Data Ingestion Utility MSI file as described in Prerequisites for FSM Data Ingestion Utility, an InstallShield Wizard dialog box will prompt you to choose the appropriate Setup Type: Default or Advanced.

If you have an existing version of FSM Data Ingestion Utility and you wish to upgrade, see the following before upgrading: Upgrading From an Existing Version of FSM Data Ingestion Utility.

The following table describes the FSM Data Ingestion Utility installation options.

Installation Option

Description

Default

All FSM Data Ingestion Utility features are installed without using Windows Service. This installation requires the most disk space.

Note:Consider the following:

Flexera One’s SaaS Management Data Ingestion Service is not installed in the Default mode. You will not be able to schedule CSV and API tasks using Windows Service.
The latest version of the FSM Data Ingestion Utility can be installed on top of the previous version. The previous version will be uninstalled, and the new version will be installed. You can verify the installation of the latest version by verifying the binaries in the installation directory. In the Control Panel, the FSM Data Ingestion Utility product version will be updated to the latest version.
The existing FSM Data Ingestion Utility database and job log files are maintained without any changes.

Advanced

FSM Data Ingestion Utility features are installed along with Flexera One’s SaaS Management Data Ingestion Service. This option is recommended for advanced users who wish to schedule CSV and API tasks using Windows Service.

Note:Consider the following:

Existing and new FSM Data Ingestion Utility users can select the Advanced mode.
Windows Service is started automatically as part of the Advanced installation process.
The user account must have the Log on as Service permission.
The user account must have read/write permissions on all directories where CSV data is uploaded from.

The following screenshot shows how the Windows Service is started automatically as part of the Advanced installation process.

Upgrading From an Existing Version of FSM Data Ingestion Utility

Important:Downgrading to a previous version of the FSM Data Ingestion Utility is not supported.

Over time, Flexera will add new features and enhancements to the FSM Data Ingestion Utility. When you upgrade the FSM Data Ingestion Utility, you must upgrade from one version to the next, without skipping any versions, to enable proper functionality.
