Basic Investment Planning Steps

The following basic steps are necessary to compare your enterprise’s contract (licensing) data to actual product usage.

1.

Add information about software producers (companies that create software products) and software vendors (companies that sell software products).

Note:The software producer and the software vendor may be the same company, if you purchased the product directly from the software producer.

2.

Add products to FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications, then associate licensed features with the products.

3.

Input contract data.

4.

Select the Product Aggregation setting in Admin | System Configuration | Reporting. This enables reporting on the products that you have defined.

5.

Run reports to view product-based usage trends.

6.

Compare the usage trends shown in the reports to the entitlements specified in your contracts to determine whether you are under- or over-licensing specific software products in your enterprise.

7.

Run remixes to determine where your enterprise may be able to optimize licensing costs by purchasing licenses for a different mix of products.
