Testing the Cognos Connection

You can test whether the connection to the Cognos (Flexera Analytics) server is working correctly from within the FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications interface.

To test the connection to the Cognos server:

1. From the Reporting tab, under Flexera Analytics, click Cognos Administration.
2. Click Test Connection.

A message is displayed at the top of the page, to indicate whether the connection is working or—if the connection is not working—to provide diagnostic information about the potential connection issue.

Cognos Server Configuration Settings

Configuration settings for the Cognos server are on the System Configuration | Reporting page. Refer to the values for the following settings:

Cognos server host
Cognos server port
Cognos web services port
Cognos Token Lifetime

Cognos Token Lifetime:

It determines how long the token that FNMEA creates for Cognos to authenticate will live for. The setting appears in the System Configuration, under the Reporting section.

The setting has a minimum value of 60, a default value of 60, and a maximum value of 315,360,000.

This setting controls the lifetime of the token FNMEA generates when a user access Flexera Analytics via the 'Cognos Reporting' menu item. For normal use of Flexera Analytics, the lifetime of this token can be kept short. However, when scheduling reports to run at a later time or on a reoccurring basis, Cognos will cache the token and use it when running the scheduled report. In this scenario, the token lifetime can be increased to ensure the scheduled report executes as expected.
