Running as a Windows Service

FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications Admin can run as a Windows service. The service is named FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications Admin and it is run as the user you specified in the Admin Configurator. If you chose to install FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications Admin as a Windows service, start the service through the Windows Administrative Tools.

If you did not opt to install Admin as a service during its installation, you can configure it to run as a service at any time by running the Admin Configurator to configure the service.

To configure the Admin component to run as a Windows service:

1. Open a Command Prompt window and navigate to the FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications installation directory.
2. To stop FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications Admin, type the command:

flexnet stop

3. To launch the Configurator, type the command:

flexnet site

4. Select Install as Service and configure the service user.
5. Click Finish in the Configurator. The site directory is re-created and the service is installed.
6. Go to System Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables...
7. Enter a new system variable for JAVA_HOME, and set the (default) value to:
C:\Program Files\FLEXnet\Manager\admin\jvm (or whatever your actual installation location is).

Because this method of installing as a Windows service is recorded in the settings in the Admin Configurator, if flexnet site make is run, the Windows service remains installed.
