FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications Master Configurator (FNMEA MC)
This documentation describes the implementation of the FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications Master Configurator (FNMEA MC). The FNMEA MC is a tool designed to help the configuration of FLEXlm and non-FLEXlm license servers such as Reprise or Sentinel that are referred to as third-party license servers.
The goal of the FNMEA MC tool is to be a single point of configuration for any third-party license technology. It simplifies and automates the configuration of third-party licensing technology supported by FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications.
The FNMEA MC tool will help configure the connector of the third-party licensing technology and perform the conversion based on arguments it finds in a configuration file. The FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications agent will then transfer the file to the FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications admin server.
This documentation outlines how to implement a generic third-party license server. At the time of writing, the FNMEA MC tool supports only Reprise and Sentinel servers, however the same implementation process outlined in this documentation will apply to any other technology that the FNMEA MC tool will support in the future.
What is the Third-Party Architecture
The third-party architecture in FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications allows users to implement admin and reporting functions for license technologies that are not licensed with the FLEXlm licensing management technology. These license technologies could be Reprise or Sentinel or any other licensing management system that will produce usage data. On converting the usage data file, the FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications agent will then ingest it and send it to FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications.
Prerequisites
• | The FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications agent version 5.10 or higher installed on the machine where the license server runs. |
• | An installation of the FNMEA MC tool. You can download the FNMEA MC tool from the flexnet operations portal. |
Note:The FNMEA MC tool currently supports Reprise and Sentinel on Windows, and Reprise on Linux.
• | Have access to an administrative account on the license server. |
• | Understand how to enable usage reporting for the target license management system. |
• | Being able to reach the FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications admin server from the machine where it is installed. |
• | Enable the web service in your version of FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications. The web service functionality is available from FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications 2024 R1 onwards, but a hotfix is available for FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications versions prior to 2024 R1. To obtain the web service hotfix, contact Flexera support. |
