Subscribing to a Usage Threshold Alert

These instructions pertain to the usage-threshold alerts—Concurrent Usage Threshold and Activatable Usage Threshold.

To subscribe to a usage threshold alert:

1. From the Alerts tab, under Alerts, click Subscription to display the Alert Subscription page.
2. Click Subscribe/Edit for the alert to which you want to subscribe. This displays the Create/Edit Alert Subscription page.
3. Select the Inbox Notification check box to display alerts in your Alerts Inbox.
4. In the Email Notification section, set up between one and three email notifications for the alert.

Select the check box to enable email notification for the alert.

Trigger time

Specify a positive integer in the first field and select an interval (minutes, hours, or days after the alert date, or days before the alert date) from the list.

The alert date is the time the alert condition began, and the trigger time is the time offset from the alert date when the alert email is triggered, but not necessarily sent. Email with a trigger delay is sent when the alert condition is next checked after the trigger time has passed, if the triggering alert has not been dismissed.

If an email notification is set with a trigger time delay (for example, 1 hour) less than the detection interval (for example, 1 day), an email could be triggered by an alert condition on Monday, but not be sent until the alert is checked again on Tuesday (if the alert was not dismissed). Therefore, for clarity, set the trigger time delay to be a multiple of the Detection and Notification Interval.

Tip:It is recommended that you set one handler to trigger immediately upon detection of the event and set trigger-time delays only on additional email notifications.

Send email to

The email address to which you want to send this alert notification. You can specify multiple email addresses in a comma-delimited list.
5. To set up additional email notifications, select the Show additional email notifications check box and complete the email notification settings described in the previous table.
6. In the Script Execution section—displayed for the Concurrent Usage Threshold and Concurrent License Checkout Duration Threshold alerts—specify whether you want to execute a script when these alerts are triggered.
7. Click Next to move to the next page of the subscription process.
8. For the Activatable Usage Threshold alert, specify whether you want to include overdraft licenses in the license counts to determine where you are with respect to the threshold.
9. Indicate whether you want FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications to calculate the usage separately by product versions or take all versions into account when calculating the usage.

For example, MyProduct has 2 versions: 1.0 and 2.0.

• MyProduct 1.0 has 500 licenses, with 300 in use—60% of licenses in use
• MyProduct 2.0 has 500 licenses, with 400 in use—80% of licenses in use

A FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications user subscribes to a usage threshold alert for MyProduct and specifies a usage threshold of 75%.

• If the Threshold Calculation (Separately by product versions) check box is selected, the threshold will be calculated by product versions separately. The user will receive an alert regarding MyProduct 2.0 has exceeded 75% usage.
• If the Threshold Calculation (Separately by product versions) check box is not selected, the user will not receive the alert, because the threshold for MyProduct (all versions) is 70% (700 in use / 1000 total licenses).
10. Type the threshold percentage. For example, type 50 if you want to receive an alert when 50% of a particular product’s licenses are in use. This number will be used for all products/features that you specify in the following fields. You can modify the expiration days for individual products/features after they are added.
11. From the list on the left, select the vendor daemon for which you want to select products. Hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple vendor daemons.
12. Click the arrow button to display the vendor daemon’s products/features in the box on the right.
13. From the list of products/features, select the products/features for which you want to set the alert, and click Add.
14. Repeat steps 11 through 13 to add more products or features.
15. Click Finish.
