Working with Independent Systems

IT Asset Management (Cloud)

You can use the analytic functions of FlexNet Manager for SAP Applications for systems that are not connected to an SAP Admin module. These systems are referred to as independent SAP systems.

The component FlexNet Beacon, which is included in the IT Asset Management installation package, along with the SAP Inventory Agent enables you to export the user and consumption data as well as package measurement results from an independent SAP system into an inventory file. This inventory file can then be imported for analysis into IT Asset Management.

Activity checks data from independent SAP systems cannot be analyzed in IT Asset Management.

Workflow for independent SAP systems

  1. Configure the independent SAP system. See Setup of Independent SAP Systems in the FlexNet Manager for SAP Applications Installation Guide PDF.
  2. If you want to analyze and optimize package consumption, measure the packages on the independent SAP system. See Measuring Packages on Independent SAP Systems.
  3. On an inventory beacon, define a connection to the independent SAP system, and execute the SAP Inventory Agent (SAPReader.exe) on the independent SAP system to collect user and consumption data (and package consumption data, if required). See SAP Inventory Agent. The SAP Inventory Agent transfers this data to the IT Asset Management database.
  4. Analyze the user and consumption data to identify the optimal license type for each user on the independent SAP system. See Regular Optimization of the SAP License Position in IT Asset Management.
  5. Generate a file that contains all recommendations. See Exporting Recommendations for Independent SAP Systems.
  6. Import the recommendations file into the independent SAP system. See Importing License-Type Recommendations.
  7. Process the recommendations on the independent SAP system and commit the changes to the SAP tables.
