Applications Tab

IT Asset Management (Cloud)

The Applications tab lists the software applications installed on the remote device. For more information about using lists, filters and other UI options, see the topics under Using Lists in IT Asset Management

The following table displays the application properties in an alphabetical order. Some of these properties are displayed by default whereas others are available through the Choose columns option:
Remember: Remote device properties are read only.
Table 1. Properties listed on the Applications tab
Field Description
Access mode
The method that this device uses to access a software application. This field can have one of the following values:
  • Blank — When there is an allocation without any supportive installation record from the imported inventory.
  • App-V For a virtualized application delivered through Microsoft App-V.
  • Citrix Virtual App — Application data imported from Citrix Cloud into IT Asset Management that is recognized by the Application Recognition Library (ARL).
  • Local — The application has been installed locally on the inventory device.
  • XenApp (now known as Citrix Virtual Apps) — The application has been accessed remotely via a Citrix XenApp server.
  • XenDesktop (now known as Virtual Desktops) — The application has been installed on a virtual machine in your VDI infrastructure, and associated with this inventory device because the primary end-user has accessed the software through this inventory device. If your virtual machine image includes the FlexNet Inventory Agent, this inventory device may have been identified as the end-point from which the end user accessed the VDI. In other circumstances, the end-user may have used a remote device such as a home computer or mobile device that cannot be inventoried; but as the end-user is associated with this inventory device, the application use can be recorded here for license consumption calculations.
Category

The broad function of the application, by default from the UN Standard Products and Services Code.

Classification

The type of software, especially as it relates to licensing (freeware, commercial, component, and so on).

Device name
The name of the inventory device. The compliance calculation updates this field with the machine name returned in inventory (matched by several properties, including serial number).
Tip: The name displays as Flexera SaaS Manager if this is a dummy device record created for imports from your Flexera One SaaS Management connector.
Edition
The edition of an application, as specified by the publisher of this application.
Note: Many applications do not specify an edition.
Extended

Displays Yes when the application originated in the Application Recognition Library, but someone in your enterprise has added extra evidence to the application definition. A No means the application comes from the Application Recognition Library and is unchanged.

Flexera ID

A generated code that uniquely identifies all application records, and can be used for integration between products from Flexera.

Last used date
If reported by an inventory tool, this column contains the last date when this application was used. The column is blank when either:
  • Usage tracking is not configured for this application
  • There is no inventory record of usage in the configured tracking period (see the Usage tab).
License name
The license name may be:
  • Copied from the first-linked software product
  • Derived from the License Name field of the SKU in the first-linked purchase (or if there is no SKU, from the purchase Description field)
  • Created manually.
Name
The application's name, which may be:
  • Set by the Application Recognition Library, and not editable (for applications with Source: Flexera)
  • Derived from the evidence values for Product, Version, and Edition properties (when generated by IT Asset Management), and editable to suit your corporate standards.
Product

The basic name of the application, excluding the publisher and references to versions or editions. This field displays the value Multiple products for multi-product licenses that have multiple primary products. See Multi-Product License.

Publisher

The name of the publisher of this software, responsible for its development and distribution.

Source
The origin of an application record:
  • Flexera — Shown when the application is downloaded in Application Recognition Library (if so, you cannot edit any of the application’s properties, but can link it to additional evidence).
  • Local — Shown when an operator in your enterprise created the record for this application.
  • Flexera (Extended) — Shown when an operator added additional evidence to the original record from Application Recognition Library.
Suite

Displays Yes if this application is a suite (that is, contains child applications), and otherwise No. Remember that a non-suite (has no children) may itself be a member of a suite. For example, Adobe Creative Suite® is a suite, Adobe Photoshop is not, and Photoshop can be a member of Creative Suite.

Version

The release number (or release identifier) of an application.

You can select any application record and click Open to view the Application Properties for the selected application. You can also click the Product link to view the application properties.
