AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization 2015 SP1

The AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization installer is available in the Flexera Product and License Center.

Before You Begin Installation

Before you begin, you need to gather the following information:

Customer Type Required Information
Standard Customers
  • Email from Flexera Orders—Your AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization license file is attached to this email, and it contains a download link to the AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization installer.
  • Email from Flexera Account Management Portal—You will use the Login ID and links on this email to obtain an Access Token to the Application Recognition Library component of AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization.
FlexNet Manager Suite On Premises Customers
  • Email from Flexera Orders—Your AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization license file is attached to this email, and it contains a download link to the AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization installer.
  • URL to FlexNet Manager Suite On Premises—You will need the URL to your installation of FlexNet Manager Suite On Premises.

You also need to review the information in Chapter 3: Getting Ready to Install AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization in the AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization Installation Guide.

Running the Installer

The steps you perform depend upon whether you are a Standard customer or a FlexNet Manager Suite On Premises customer.

Standard Customers: Installing & Connecting to Application Recognization Service

To install and connect to Application Recognition Service:

  1. Obtain the email that was sent to your organization from Flexera Account Management Portal.
  2. Click the link in the paragraph about setting your password. You will be prompted to set your password.
  3. Follow the instructions to set a password
  4. After you have obtained your password, open the following site: https://www.flexnetmanager.com/Suite/Accounts#Index_AllAccounts
  5. On the Flexera Login page, use your Login ID (email address) and Password to log in. The Accounts page of the Application Recognition Service component of AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization opens.
  6. Click the Create a service account button. The Add Service Member to page opens.
  7. Enter the requested information and click Save. The Display Token page opens
  8. Copy the Access Token that is listed and keep it in a safe location.
  9. Locate the email that you were sent from Flexera Orders (orders@flexerasoftware.com). This email contains a download link to the AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization installer and has an attached license file.
  10. Save the license file attached to this email.
  11. Click the link in the Getting Started section to download the AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization installer. You could also sign in to the Flexera Product and License Center and download the installer from there.
  12. Copy both the installer and license file to a location accessible to the server where you are going to install AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization.
  13. Launch the installer: AdminStudioInventoryAndRationalizationVERSION.exe. The Welcome panel opens.
  14. Click Next. The License Agreement panel opens.
  15. Accept the license agreement and click Install. Installation begins. When installation is complete, the Complete panel opens.
  16. Click Finish to close the installer and launch the AdminStudio Configuration Wizard. The Create or Update an AdminStudio database panel opens.
  17. Enter the database server and database name of the database where you will be storing your AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization data, and the login the credentials to that database.
  18. Click Next. The Set Default Connection panel opens. The SQL Server and database that you specified on the Create or Update an AdminStudio Database panel is listed here in read-only format.
  19. From the Authentication list, select Windows Authentication or Server Authentication.
  20. Enter the User ID and Password that the Web Site Application Pool will run as in order to access the database, and then click Next. The Activation panel opens.
  21. Upload the license file that was attached to your email from Flexera Orders, and then click Next. The Configuration Settings: Flexera Service Gateway panel opens.
  22. In the Access Token field, enter the token that you obtained.
  23. Click Test to test the connection.
  24. Click Next. The Configuration Settings: Microsoft Configuration Manager panel opens.
  25. Enter connection information to your Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager server.
  26. Click Next. The Configuration Settings: Active Directory panel opens.
  27. Enter the requested Active Directory information and click Next. Configuration tasks will be launched and progress messages will be displayed.
  28. When configuration is complete, click Finish. AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization will be launched.
  29. Login using the following credentials:
    • User ID—admin@company.com
    • Password—admin

FlexNet Manager Suite On Premises Customers: Installing & Connecting to FlexNet Manager Suite On Premises

To install and connect to FlexNet Manager Suite On Premises:

  1. Request a new Directory Services service account from your IT department for use by AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization.
  2. Launch FlexNet Manager Suite On Premises.
  3. On the System menu at the top right, click Accounts. The All Accounts view of the Accounts page opens
  4. Next to the Account field, click the Search button and select the service account that you created in Step 1 from the list.
  5. In the Name field, enter a name to identify this service account, such as AdminStudio Service Account.
  6. Set the Status field to Enabled.
  7. From the Role list, select Administrator.
  8. Click the plus sign next to the Role list to add another role, and select Web Service.
  9. Click Create.
  10. Locate the email that you were sent from Flexera Orders (orders@flexerasoftware.com). This email contains a download link to the AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization installer and has an attached license file
  11. Save the license file attached to this email.
  12. Click the link in the Getting Started section to download the AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization installer. You could also sign in to the Flexera Product and License Center and download the installer from there.
  13. Copy both the installer and license file to a location accessible to the server where you are going to install AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization.
  14. Launch the installer: AdminStudioInventoryAndRationalizationVERSION.exe. The Welcome panel opens.
  15. Click Next. The License Agreement panel opens.
  16. Accept the license agreement and click Next. The Destination Folder panel opens.
  17. Accept the default location or click Change and select a different location.
  18. Click Install. Installation begins. When installation is complete, the Complete panel opens.
  19. Click Finish to close the installer and launch the AdminStudio Configuration Wizard. The Create or Update an AdminStudio database panel opens.
  20. Enter the database server and database name of the database where you will be storing your AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization data, and the login the credentials to that database.
  21. Click Next. The Set Default Connection panel opens. The SQL Server and database that you specified on the Create or Update an AdminStudio Database panel is listed here in read-only format.

  25. Leave the Access Token field blank.
  26. In the Application Recognition Service URL field, enter the URL to your installation of FlexNet Manager Suite On Premises, such as http://YourFNMSServerName/Suite.
  27. Click Test to test the connection.
  28. Click Next. Configuration tasks will be launched and progress messages will be displayed.
  29. When configuration is complete, click Finish. AdminStudio Inventory and Rationalization will be launched.
  30. Login using the following credentials:
    • User ID—admin@company.com
    • Password—admin
