Managing Log and Database Maintenance
Data Platform
Data platform provides a dedicated screen for cleaning up older, unused application logs and the database logs and helping to archive them. Log maintenance task management is divided into two parts:
- The Logging settings are for cleaning up the Log files. The goal of this process is to reclaim disk space on applications servers that is being consumed by log files, temporary files and objects, backup files created by updates and the patching proces, and old patch files.
- The Database settings are for cleaning up database log files. The goal of this process is to reclaim database storage space by truncating/removing rows logged to database tables and removing orphaned or stale database objects (including orphaned tables from failed imports and stale data/rows from invalid inventories).
The Maintenance screen can be scheduled similar to the Technopedia Catalog sync. See Scheduling a Weekly Synchronization and Scheduling a Monthly Synchronization for more detailed instructions on advanced scheduling options.
Info: When running, the maintenance process halts all other processes until the maintenance process is complete.
To access the maintenance screen, do the following steps:
- Click the Maintenance icon (broom and dustpan). The Maintenance screen opens to show scheduling settings for the maintenance process.
To schedule the maintenance process, choose either Simple Schedule or Advanced Schedule.
- Configure the Simple Schedule by setting the frequency using the Simple Schedule controls. For example, Recur every = 2 and Weeks to cause the maintenance job to run once every two week. You can choose Days, Weeks, or Months and set an appropriate number (1-31 Days, 1-4 Weeks, or 1-12 Months).
- Configure the Advanced Schedule following the same pattern used for setting the synchronization schedule for the Technopedia catalog. See Scheduling a Weekly Synchronization and Scheduling a Monthly Synchronization.
To run the maintenance task on-demand, simply click Start Maintenance Task to start the process.
