Creating an SBOM Part Manually

Use the following procedure to create an SBOM part manually. This procedure refers to the following sections for additional information:

• Fields Used to Define an SBOM Part
• Selecting an Existing Component Instance for the SBOM Part
• Linking the Current SBOM Part to Another Part

To create an SBOM part manually:

1. Open the Manage SBOM Parts page (SBOM Management > Manage SBOM Parts).
2. Click the Create SBOM Part button in the upper right of the page.

The Create SBOM Part slideout opens, showing the fields used to create an SBOM part. (All required fields have a red asterisk next to their label.)

3. From the Bucket dropdown list, select the bucket to which you want to add the SBOM part you are creating.
4. Complete the remaining fields as needed. (Required fields are shown with a red asterisk.) For field descriptions, see Fields Used to Define an SBOM Part.

Consider the following functions you can perform from the Create SBOM Part slideout:

• If you want to create the part based on a component that you select from the SBOM Catalog, click the Create From Component option and then the Choose Component button that is subsequently displayed to begin the process of selecting the component. (If you have already selected a component instance for the part but want to change it, simply click Change Component.) For further instructions, see Selecting an Existing Component Instance for the SBOM Part.
• If you are creating the part “free form”, do not select the Create From Component option. Provide your own information in the required fields and in any optional fields as needed.
• If want to link the SBOM part to another part in the same bucket, select the Link Part button. For further instructions, see Linking the Current SBOM Part to Another Part.
5. Click Save to create the SBOM part.

A message in the top right corner of the slideout confirms that the SBOM part was successfully created. (If a required field is missing a value, the field is highlighted in red on the slideout and must be completed before the part can be saved.)
