Managing Applications Linked To a License

IT Asset Management (Cloud)

The Applications tab of the license properties enables you to manage the applications linked to a license. For a single-product license, there may be multiple applications (typically different versions authorized by upgrade and downgrade rights), but they must all have the same value for their Product setting. In contrast, a multi-product license enables you to install multiple products based on the license agreement terms. When a license has multiple linked applications, IT Asset Management looks at the value in the Product column of each linked application. If this value is same for all the added applications, the license is treated as a single-product license; but if there are different values for Product, the license is treated as a multi-product license covering a product bundle.

You can perform the following activities:

Adding applications to a license

The license agreement terms may enable you to link multiple applications to a license. Follow these steps:
Note: You should add applications to a license strictly according to the license agreement. IT Asset Management consumes the entitlements according to the license definition. An incorrect license (single-product or multi-product license) definition may lead to an incorrect compliance position.
  1. Enter the name or a pattern to match the desired application, and click Search. IT Asset Management displays a list of matching applications. For more details about using the search, see To Use a Fly-Down.
  2. Select the desired application(s) from the results and click Add applications to add the application to this license.
  3. Click Save.
Note: If you link an application (that cannot be used to measure CAL usage consumption) to a CAL, an alert is displayed in the Possible issues for this license list, and also on the application record.

Removing applications from a license

You can manually remove a linked application from a license. A multi-product license automatically becomes a single-product license when the remaining linked application(s) have the same value for the Product column. In other words, you remove the application with a different value in the Product column. Follow these steps:
  1. In the Applications section, select the application(s) you want to remove from the license.
  2. Click Remove to remove the selected application(s).
  3. Click Save.
Note: If a license has no application linked to it, you cannot configure upgrade and downgrade rights on it. To configure the upgrade and downgrade rights on such licenses, add a local application to it.
