IT Asset Management (Cloud)

This tab lists the points rules that are currently part of this points rules set. It also allows you to:

• Create a new points rule to add to this set, either working from scratch or by copying an existing rule and modifying it (see Add a Points Rule)
• Review the properties of individual rules. The properties are visible in the list; but you can also select a rule in the list and click Open to see them in a separate blue panel. For a points rule with Source Local, or when you are creating a new points rule, this panel allows you to edit the properties.
  Tip: When you open the points rule properties:

  • If the BYOL control displays Ignored, it has no effect on whether this points rule is applied to an installation. The control is enabled for those rules that may be applicable to Bring Your Own License (BYOL) scenarios, typically using the Microsoft Azure Hybrid Benefit to take entitlements originally purchased for use on-premises (and covered by active Software Assurance), and either migrate or simultaneously use them in the cloud. More details below.
  • After opening the properties of a points rule, click Next to see the full set of product(s) mapped to this points rule (the set of products may have been condensed in the summary). (If the points rule does not include any mapped products, the Next button is disabled.) In the full listing, the Version or Edition columns may have the value Any, meaning that the points rule may apply to any version/edition without restriction.
• Delete a points rule that has been added within your enterprise (see Delete a Points Rule).
  Tip: You cannot delete any points rules that were supplied by the Application Recognition Library.

The columns that appear in the list vary, depending on the license type to which this points rule set applies. (For a listing of which license types support which control, see What Are Points Rule Sets?). Possible controls are listed here alphabetically. For details about editing these values, see Add a Points Rule.

Applies to

Displays a comma-separated set of values that may be matched against an inventory device's Hosted in setting. If an inventory device's current setting is included in this set, this points rule may be used to calculate license consumption for the device. Special values include On-premises, matching inventory devices hosted locally within your enterprise; and Any cloud service provider, matching whatever (current or future) cloud service provider's name may be set for the inventory device.

Editable in the Points rules tab of the points rule set properties (while creating or editing a points rule).

BYOL

Whether this points rule can apply for "bring your own license" (BYOL) scenarios, and in particular for the Microsoft Azure Hybrid Benefit (AHB), or license mobility rights. The selected value may be:

• Blank (which in the blue properties panel, displays the Ignored option) — This is the value for the majority of points rules, in particular all those that existed before this setting was introduced, and points rules for licenses not eligible for AHB
• No (which in the blue properties panel, displays the Disabled option) — This points rule may not be used for any AHB or license mobility scenarios
• Yes (which in the blue properties panel, displays the Enabled option) — This points rule is applied only to those installations where the BYOL use right is enabled (see license properties, User rights & rules > License consumption rules > Cloud service provider, where the Azure Hybrid Benefit / license mobility check box must be selected). In this case, check the Mapped products and the Points rule name for guidance. For example, License mobility - Enterprise Edition to Standard Edition is a points rule used when converting on-premises licenses for Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition to cloud licenses for SQL Server Standard Edition.

Remember: You cannot modify points rules provided with IT Asset Management (downloaded with the Application Recognition Library). If you need a points rule that changes the BYOL setting, make a local copy (using Create from), adjust the settings in your copy, and save the results. Where there are overlapping points rules with different settings for Source (Flexera and Local), your local points rule takes precedence.

Computer model no

Servers with matching model numbers may consume from the linked license.

Earliest purchase date

Earliest hardware purchase that can consume from the linked license.

Latest purchase date

Last date for hardware purchases that can be linked to the attached license.

Mapped products

The end product(s) to which the given points rule may apply. For example, in the points rule for License mobility - Enterprise Edition to Standard Edition (which starts from on-premises Enterprise Edition), the end product mapped to the points rule is Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition (regardless of the release version).

The value may be empty when the points rule may apply to any product linked to the appropriate license, without restriction. The properties of each mapped product are comma-separated, and if there are two products linked, they are on separate lines. If there are more than 2, the number of additional linked products is shown in parentheses.

Remember: You cannot modify points rules provided with IT Asset Management (downloaded with the Application Recognition Library). If you need a points rule with different Mapped products, make a local copy (using Create from), adjust the products in your copy, and save the results. Where there are overlapping points rules with different settings for Source (Flexera and Local), your local points rule takes precedence.

Max. clock speed (MHz)

The fastest processor allowed to consume from the linked license.

Max. cores

Highest cores count for servers permitted to consumed from the linked license.

Max. cores per socket

The highest value of (cores/sockets) for a server to consume from the linked license.

Max. processors

Highest count of processors on a server allowed to consume from the linked license.

Max. resource

Highest count of the named resource that allows consumption from the linked license.

Max. sockets

Highest count of sockets on a server that can consume from the linked license.

Max. users

The maximum number of end-users specified by the linked license to match this rule.

Min. clock speed (MHz)

The slowest processor that can consume from the linked license.

Min. cores

An inventory device must have this number of cores (or more) for a software installation on that device to consume from the related license.

Min. cores per socket

Minimum value of (cores/sockets) for a server to consume from the linked license.

Min. processors

The server must have at least this count of processors to consume from the linked license.

Min. resource

Minimum of a named resource to allow consumption from the linked license.

Min. sockets

Minimum processor sockets on server for installation to match this rule.

Min. users

The minimum count of users to match this rule (IBM UVU only).

Points

Points consumed from the license when an installation matches this rule.

Remember: You cannot modify points rules provided with IT Asset Management (downloaded with the Application Recognition Library). It is highly unusual to customize the points value in a rule, as these are normally set by the software publishers. However, there are occasions when a negotiation with a publisher results in a unique value (and perhaps even a decimal fraction of a point). If you need a points rule that changes the Points value, make a local copy (using Create from), adjust the value in your copy, and save the results. Where there are overlapping points rules with different values for Points, your local points rule takes precedence.

Points rule name

The name of the points rule.

Processor type

An expression used to test for matching processors. (A single asterisk matches all processors.)

Source

Whether this points rule came from Flexera, or from your enterprise (Local).
