License Reclamation Using Inventory Features
App Portal 2020 R1
Note:License reclamation can also be performed using App Portal’s My Apps feature, which requires integration with FlexNet Manager Suite. For more information, see Configuring the My Apps Feature to Perform Compliance Management.
License reclamation utilizes the ability of System Center Configuration Manager to track and meter program usage data to create an email based campaign to encourage the user to uninstall the software. Using License Reclamation can greatly reduce the license usage of an application by removing the installations, and therefore reclaiming licenses, and saving costs.
The requirements for automatic license reclamation are:
• | A System Center Configuration Manager program that uninstalls the software |
• | A System Center Configuration Manager Software metering rule that tracks the usage data for the program. |
When a request is enabled for reclamation, the computers and their associated users are loaded into a database table. The license reclamation process will use this data to track the notification frequency and user response. This data is periodically refreshed to add new records as they fall into scope of the license reclamation settings.
