Adding Single License Servers

In order to monitor and manage the activity of your license servers, you must add the license servers to FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications using the Add Single License Server page.

Note:If you need to add a license-server triad, use the Add Triad License Servers page. For information, see the topic, Adding Triad License Servers.

To add a license server:

1. From the Servers tab, under the License Managers menu, select Add Single License Server.
2. Complete the license-server settings. Required settings are indicated by a red asterisk.

Setting

Description

License server display name

Provide a unique name for this license server. This name is used throughout FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications—in the user interface and in reports, for example—to identify the license server.

Agent

Select the FlexNet Agent that resides on the license server you are adding. This menu lists all of the FlexNet Agents that have been added to FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications.

If the license server’s agent does not appear in the drop-down menu, add the FlexNet Agent using the Add Agent page.

lmgrd executable location

Specify the path to the lmgrd executable on the license server.

lmutil executable location

Specify the path to the lmutil executable on the license server.

License manager options

Select the options that you want to enable for this license manager:

Allow licenses to be freed—When this option is selected, the licenses served by this license server can be freed, or returned to the pool of available licenses. For more information, see the topics, Freeing Licenses by Feature and Freeing Licenses by User.
Allow remote shutdown—Select this option to enable remote shutdown of the license server. This enables the Stop button for the license server on the Configure and Manage License Server page. A user who has a role with the Manage License Servers permission can stop the license server.

Auto-restart

Select this option to automatically restart the license server when it is down.

License manager command-line parameters

This field enables you to pass a string as a command-line option when starting lmgrd or lmadmin. Refer to the FlexNet Publisher License Administration Guide for information about command-line parameters that can be used and the platforms with which they can be used.

License files or directories

Type the full path to your license files or license-file directories. If you are listing multiple license files and/or directories, separate items using colons (:) on UNIX systems, and semicolons (;) on Microsoft Windows systems.

Debug logging

To set up debug logging:

Enable debug logging—Select this option to enable creation of a debug log for this license server. If this option is selected, you must specify a file location in the Debug log location setting.
Append to debug log—Select this option to append new debug-log information to this license server’s existing debug-log file. This enables retention of previous debug-log information.

Important:If the option Append to debug log is not selected, the generation of new debug-log information will overwrite the existing log file, effectively deleting the existing file.

Debug log location

The full path to the debug-log file. To enable debug logging, you must also select the Enable debug logging checkbox.

Notes

Notes/comments about this license server. For reference only.

Automatic status updates

Select this option to automatically refresh the display of this license server’s status in FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications, at the selected interval.

If this option is not selected, you will be able to refresh the display of this license server’s status only by clicking the license server’s Update status button on the License Manager Summary page.

Automatic license-file rereads

Select this option to automatically reread the license files—specified in the License files or directories field—at the selected interval.

A license-file reread causes the license server manager to reread the license files and to start any new vendor daemons that have been added. In addition, all currently running vendor daemons are signaled to reread the license files and their options files for changes.

3. Click Save.
