Oracle Java Worksheet Report

IT Asset Management (Cloud)

The Oracle Java Worksheet report provides detailed information about all your instances of Oracle Java published by Oracle or Sun Java, whether installed on server or desktop devices. The report is presented in the spreadsheet template provided by Oracle. Each record in the report represents one Oracle Java installation instance. The report provides you with much of the information that you provide to Oracle during a license true-up, or whenever you are audited.

The data presented in this report is also available in the Oracle GLAS evidence file generated for audit purposes. However, this report is not a one-to-one replica of the GLAS evidence archive. Some columns included here serve as additional fields designed to enhance insight and improve filtering capabilities related to the identified Java install base. These additional columns are not part of the original GLAS evidence archive. For information about how to download Oracle GLAS audit evidence, see Oracle Instances.

Note: This report only includes data gathered by the FlexNet Inventory Agent.

Generating the report

Important: For data in this report to be fully populated, make sure the Enable collection of Oracle Java audit data check box is selected on the Inventory Settings page. For more details about this configuration, see Oracle Java Scanning.
  1. Go to the Oracle Java Worksheet page (Reporting > Compliance Reports > Oracle Java Worksheet).
  2. Click Run report.

Limiting the report results

The following filters are available to further limit the results:
  • Filter by one or all Java Vendor names.
Tip: If this report is to be used for Oracle audits, choose All from the drop-down list.
  • Filter by one or more Enterprise groups. (For help with the search, see To Use a Fly-Down.)

Reading the report

The following columns (listed alphabetically) are available.

Application properties
Column name Description
Application publisher The name of the organization or individual that published the application.
Classification

The type of software, especially as it relates to licensing (freeware, commercial, component, and so on).

Edition
The edition of an application, as specified by the publisher of this application.
Note: Many applications do not specify an edition.
Installed application

The application that has been recognized by the evidence returned in inventory.

Product

Displays the application name, excluding references to the publisher, version or edition.

Version

The release number (or release identifier) of an application.

Computer properties
Column name Description
Corporate unit

The corporate unit responsible for the inventory device.

Cost center

The cost center responsible for all costs incurred for this inventory device.

Environment type The environment of the installation. Possible values:
  • Development
  • Production
  • Test
Inventory date

The date of the inventory import that provided the information in this report.

Inventory device type
Specifies the type of the inventory device, which may be any of the following values:
  • Cluster — A cluster of several computers, typically managed by Kubernetes and with consumption reported by the IBM License Service (which does not allow for further breakdown, for example to individual hosts or VMs within the cluster)
  • Computer — A computing device like a desktop, laptop, workstation, or a non-virtualized server.
  • Mobile device — A mobile device like a tablet or smart phone.
  • Product — Not a device type, but a pseudo-value used only in IBM VPC licenses to identify rows showing the licensed IBM product. This value may appear only if the Bundle consumption rules (in the license properties Use Rights & Rules tab, under License consumption rules) have the option Consume for each product on a device selected.
  • Remote Device — The device is a remote device (not appearing in inventory) known to have accessed virtualized applications. This value is created automatically.
  • VDI Template — The VDI template used to create the virtual desktop instance that was accessed from an inventory device (see Virtual Desktop Templates). This value is created automatically.
  • Virtual Machine — A virtual machine running on a physical host machine. A physical host can run multiple virtual machines using virtualization technologies from VMWare, Oracle, Microsoft, and so on. Note that this value is also used for a record fabricated to represent an Oracle Database running on Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS).
  • VM Host — A physical virtual host running one or more virtual machines using any virtualization technology, such as VMWare.
Inventory source If you have multiple overlapping inventory sources that report on the same device, it is possible for some inventory details to come from one source and other details from another source. This column identifies the most recent source of inventory for this device, so that the value may change as uploads from different sources are imported.
Location

The location within your enterprise that is responsible for the device.

Name

The name of the inventory device returned in inventory.

Machine type Whether the machine is a desktop or server.
Operating system

The operating system software reported in inventory collected from this device.

Serial no.

The unique identifier for the inventory device linked to this asset record.

The manufacturer's serial number (where it exists) of the linked inventory device is automatically copied here whenever the linked inventory device is updated. Editable in the Serial number field in the General tab of the asset properties.

User name

The user assigned to, or calculated for, this device.

GLAS Evidence properties
Column name Description
AMC agent This is a Yes/No flag indicating whether the Advanced Management Console (AMC) Agent is running on the machine.
Cores

The total number of processor cores available in a physical inventory device; or the number of cores assigned to an inventory device that is a virtual machine.

Populated and (by default) updated by inventory imports, the number of Cores can be manually overridden in the Hardware tab of the inventory device properties (see Hardware Tab).

Incomplete data This is a Yes/No flag indicating whether information is missing from any of the following fields, which could be caused by older versions of agent or due to the Oracle Java Scanning function being disabled:
  • AMC agent
  • Installation date
  • Java publisher/runtime vendor
  • Java release/version/build
  • Mission control
  • Open source
  • Release file exists
  • Unlock commercial feature
  • UsageTracker
  • Version 6 and earlier

If this column is Yes, the record will not be included in the Oracle Java audit report. And you should check the installation for potential risks.

Installation date

The date when the Oracle Java instance was installed.

This read-only value is generated from incoming inventory.
Installation path The full path on the device where the Java instance is installed.
Java publisher/runtime vendor The provider of the Java application.
Java release/version/build The release number (or release identifier) of the Oracle Java instance.

Visible in the Version field in General tab of the application properties. Editable for applications with a Source value of Local. For applications from the Application Recognition Library, it is not editable.

Mission control This is a Yes/No flag indicating whether “jmrc”, “jmc” or “missioncontrol” process/folder are found for the installation.
Open source This is a Yes/No flag indicating whether the Java installation has been recognized as open source.
Operating system

The operating system running on this device. This value is collected from the device inventory record.

Editable in the Hardware tab of the inventory device properties (for manually-created records).

Part of other product This is a Yes/No flag indicating whether the Java installation has been recognized as being included in another Oracle product license. This is determined by the Java installation’s associated license and by the configuration for the Exemption by file path listing (see Oracle Java Scanning).
Physical machine name The name of the physical machine, or, if the device is located on a virtual server, the host server name.

Editable in the Name field in the General tab of the inventory device properties (if mapped to an inventory device). The compliance calculation updates this field with the machine name returned in inventory (matched by serial number).

Processor model

The type of processor installed in the inventory device.

Populated and (by default) updated by inventory imports, this value can be manually overwritten in the Hardware tab of the inventory device properties (see Hardware Tab).

Release file This is a Yes/No flag indicating whether a release.txt file exists in the installation folder.
Sockets

The total number of processors installed in a physical inventory device, or logical processors assigned to a virtual machine.

Populated and (by default) updated by inventory imports, this field in the Hardware tab of the inventory device properties can be overridden with a manually entered value (see Hardware Tab). Overridden values are no longer updated by incoming inventory.

Unlock commercial feature This is a Yes/No flag indicating whether the Unlock commercial feature is active for the installation.
UsageTracker This is a Yes/No flag indicating whether any usagetracker file is found (for example, "usagetracker.properties") for the installation.
Version 6 and earlier This is a Yes/No flag indicating whether the version of the Java instance is 6 or earlier.
Virtual machine name

The name of the virtual machine.
